Kaliwa River Watershed

The Kaliwa River Watershed (KRW) is a part of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range that stretches from northeastern to southeastern Luzon. Specifically, it is situated in the municipalities of Tanay, Rizal and General Nakar in Quezon province.

The KRW has a wide range of natural features and scenic spots that have high tourism potentials. Within the area, there are waterfalls, natural springs, rivers and species of flora and fauna.

The area is rich not only in flora and fauna but also in fertile lands and mineral deposits, which is the prime source of livelihood of residents living within the watershed area.

Among the rock types that can be found in the area include Alluvium, Biorite and Clastic sedimentary rocks like Inter-bedded sandstone, siltstone and Conglomerate.

The Kinabuan Falls, located on the northwestern portion of Tanay is also considered as the jump-off point going to Mts. Irid and Angelo of the Sierra Madre Range. It is about 2 to 3 hours walk from Sta. Ines. The Kinabuan Falls has good visual impact, its water is clear. Water coming from upstream can be a good source of mineral water.

The dry season starts from November to April and wet season ranges from May to December.

Hiking and swimming are some of the activities that visitors can enjoy in the watershed area. Aside from waterfalls, natural springs, rivers and species of flora and fauna, mountaineers on their way to the Sierra Madre Range take the scenic route through the Kinabuan Falls.

Kaliwa River Watershed is about 50 kilometers northeast of Metro Manila. It is about 30 kilometers by road from the Municipality of Tanay, Rizal. Most of the Barangays can be reached by a motor vehicle during dry season.

All the barangays are not readily accessible during rainy season. On the General Nakar side, accessibility to the barangays in the watershed is limited to foot trails. The barangays are generally not reachable by motor vehicles
